Every year on 8 March, International Women’s Day celebrates the achievement of women around the world. This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias encouraging gender equality and creating an inclusive and diverse world.
This #InternationalWomensDay, we're celebrating the women of Laser Clinics. First up, we have Lauren McKenzie. A devoted business woman, who is always full of positive energy, Lauren is our Franchise Partner from Laser Clinics Newcastle.
Why do you think it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
There have been exceptional women, who throughout history, have made huge and important impacts upon the world. International Women’s Day is a chance for us to remember, recognise and celebrate those achievements.
Which powerful woman do you admire most?
This is an easy question to answer, that would without doubt be my Mam.
What does the idea of #BreakTheBias mean to you?
It’s about trying to achieve equality for all women by breaking down the barriers and discrimination that exists in society. By #BreakingTheBias we can work towards achieving a more inclusive and diverse world for everyone which must be the ideal.

Why do you think it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
I’m passionate about women being successful in their careers and business, whilst empowering other women along the way. It’s important to recognise that sadly inequalities still exist, and we should be working towards a more gender-equal way of life, especially in the workplace.
Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman?
My background as a dental surgeon - it is quite a male-dominated profession, though fortunately, the number of female dentists is rising. Having a support network of like-minded female dentists has been very beneficial.
What does the idea of #BreakTheBias mean to you?
Celebrating equal opportunities regardless of gender!

Why do you think it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
To celebrate and recognise women’s achievements and raise awareness about women’s equality. It’s also a time to step back and appreciate the women who are mothers, entrepreneurs, young women of vision and those growing up fighting to achieve their dream and break the ‘normal’.
Which powerful woman do you admire most?
Michelle Obama. I admire her philosophy to never stop believing or give in. To continue pushing and fighting for what you feel is right, and to think of others whilst doing it.
What does the idea of #BreakingTheBias mean to you?
To continue celebrating and bringing awareness to all women across the world, to celebrate women’s achievements, and for women to continue gaining equal opportunities.
